Ford currentlyy permits owners to update older, non-internet-equipped vehicles from 2010-2016 with the latest communications technology via its new SmartLink product. The 4G LTE-enabled device plugs into the OBD II port under the dash and adds remote start, remote lock and unlock, Wi-Fi access for up to eight devices and vehicle health, security and location alerts all accessible via a smartphone app.
“Ford SmartLink will surprise owners of recent model-year vehicles by adding some of today’s connectivity features” said Stephen Odell, executive vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service. “Offering it through our dealerships is another way to keep us connected with our customers and earn their loyalty.”
SmartLink will be available beginning summer 2017, and can be acquired from any Ford or Lincoln dealership. Ford says pricing will be announced closer to launch.
